The main phrasing that this piece is built around came to me about 6:00 this morning when I woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep. That’s been happening to me a lot lately. I’ve been waking up between 6 and 6:30 each morning when I am not supposed to get up until 8:30. But then I’m stuck there, unable to fall back asleep until… you guessed it, just before 8:30.
This entry marks my 100th posting since I started this blog. Just a little bit of trivia. WordPress keeps track of those types of things on my admin page.
Anyway, here’s the new piece (crossposted to http://www.silverladder.com/literature/lyrics/chasing.htm):
“Chasing”
Written 2/18/11 by S. Watson
Always chasing names
In still frames
Perfect black and white memories
Coated in neon and gold
Never say the wrong thing
Never grow old
Meanwhile there’s the same old sentence
In a whole different story
Lost in a forgotten chapter
Unwinding between the lines
Somewhere between the plot twists and disasters
Always chasing headlines
Behind drawn blinds
Whatever it takes to stake a claim
Coated in pride and blood
Forever plastic
Forever young
Meanwhile there’s the same old sentence
In a whole different story
Lost in a forgotten chapter
Unwinding between the lines
Somewhere between the plot twists and disasters
Always chasing a stay
With ones that wouldn’t give you the time of day
While this clock gathers dust
Coated in regret and rust
Never changing
Never trust
