Songs And Albums I Was Happiest To Discover (And Listened To Most) In 2009

Note: these songs and albums weren’t necessarily released in 2009. In fact, most of them weren’t. This is just the list of the songs and albums I listened to the most and really got into during the last 12 months. Rather than acquiring new music in terms of releases that came out this year, I tended to discover previously released material that I had overlooked the first time around.

M83 – “Graveyard Girl”
M83 – “We Own The Sky”

David Byrne – “This Must Be The Place” (live from Austin, TX)
Talking Heads – “This Must Be The Place”

Sigur Ros – “Saeglopur”
Prince – “Money Don’t Matter 2Night”
XTC – “King For A Day”

Albums:

Caroline’s Spine – “Work It Out”
Minus The Bear – “Menos El Oso”
Mute Math – “Mute Math”
Earthsuit – “Kaleidoscope Superior”
One Day As A Lion – “One Day As A Lion”
Umphrey’s McGee – “Live At The Murat”
David Holmes – “Ocean’s Thirteen Sountrack”
Sting – “The Soul Cages”
Material – “Hallucination Engine”

And while it technically isn’t music, I was also very happy to be introduced to the massive vault of surrealist prank calls by Longmont Potion Castle. He is to prank calls what Mitch Hedberg was to comedy and Ween is to music.
