My First Keynote Address

Today I had the opportunity to deliver my first-ever keynote address, speaking at the CorVel Coporation’s annual spring seminar. CorVel works in the area of worker’s comp, among other areas. This year’s seminar theme revolved around the epidemic of opiate painkiller abuse in the U.S. as it relates to worker’s comp cases. Given my personal drug history, and my path to heroin addiction that started with prescription painkiller abuse, they felt I’d be an ideal candidate to end the day with a very personal, human presentation. I spoke on my experience with addiction and recovery, and my current work in the field of prevention.

My keynote address went very well and the response was excellent. The Q&A session featured a lot of very insightful questions. I had several people come up to me afterward to thank me, shake my hand, and congratulate me. I even got a hug. The individual who invited me to speak said my speech exceeded her expectations and meet the company’s needs perfectly.

What an awesome opportunity. I’m grateful.
